Does anyone say “take a video “?
Main Post: Does anyone say “take a video “?
Top Comment: I say "take a video" far more often than I say "record a video." That's probably the most common verb I use for that scenario.

Any way to get the direct link to Reddit-hosted videos?
Main Post:
When I share a video with someone, I prefer sending the direct link so they don't have to load up a bunch of website UI just to view the thing I sent. According to this comment, it's possible to get the direct link to the video file hosted on v.redd.it. Is there an option in RES to surface that direct link on the post?
Top Comment: No option in RES, but by following the instructions provided at that link (look at the .json, search for the fallback_url) it's not challenging to get the link that way. Would probably be easy to add to a future version of RES. For example, check out these happy dogs: https://v.redd.it/z08avb339n801/DASH_1_2_M
LPT: Want to send someone a direct v.redd.it video without sending them the whole Reddit site? In the address bar, add “.json” at the end of the URL. You’ll see a lot of text. About 25 lines down, there will be a https://v.redd.it link that ends with DASH_600_K. Copy & paste that link and send!

Works great on mobile! (The video plays directly in iMessage)

Top Comment: But there's no sound. Where's the link to the video with sound?

My Take on Wan 2.1 AI - Video Magic with Some Hiccups
Main Post:
I’ve been messing around with Wan 2.1 AI lately, and I wanted to share my thoughts. It’s an open-source video generation tool that’s been hyped up a lot, so I figured I’d give it a spin. Here’s what I found in a nutshell—features, pros, cons, and my experience.
Features
- Generates videos from text or images.
- Supports 480p and 720p resolutions.
- Runs on consumer GPUs (like my RTX 3060).
- Handles text-to-video, image-to-video, and even some editing tasks.
- Open-source, so it’s free to use.
Pros
- The quality is wild—videos look cinematic with smooth motion.
- It’s fast enough on decent hardware (5-second clips in about 4 minutes).
- I love that it’s free and doesn’t need a pricey cloud subscription.
- Text generation in videos (English and Chinese) works surprisingly well.
Cons
- It’s a VRAM hog—my 12GB card barely keeps up with the 14B model.
- Prompt control feels hit-or-miss; camera movements often ignore what I want.
- Setup took me ages—tons of files to download and tweak.
- Lower step counts (like 10) make videos blurry or flickery.
My Experience
I tried making a short clip of “a cat riding a scooter in the rain.” The result was cool—rain looked real, and the cat’s wings (yeah, it added those) moved nicely. But the scooter barely budged, and the colors went weird at 480p. On 720p with 50 steps, it got sharper, but my GPU groaned the whole time. I also hit an out-of-memory error twice before I dialed settings down. It’s powerful, no doubt, but you need patience and some tech know-how to get it humming.
